B:Music Summer School
/ Children and Young PeopleB:Music Summer School
B:Music Summer School is a week long creative music making programme at Symphony Hall! During this week, participants will work in groups of 10 with their lead tutor to develop skills in improvisation, harmony and ensemble performance skills through the exploration of Jazz and beyond. This will culminate into a final showcase at the end of the week!
Participants will explore influential Jazz artists, learning key songs written by the artist, as well as modern songs and genres that have been influenced by their sound today. With the support of our tutors, they are given the opportunity to connect the musical dots of Jazz, its musical journey and how it has evolved.
They will also take part in additional afternoon workshops that explore different areas of music, that are taught by the lead tutor and their area of specialism, for example;
- Samba
- Indian Classical percussion
- Jazz Improvisation
- Synths and Sampling
- Stage and sound tech

Who will be teaching?
B:Music Summer School will be taught by a carefully selected team of musicians, educators and industry professionals from different musical and cultural backgrounds.
Do I need any particular experience to take part?
No! We welcome participants of all musical abilities.
What do I need to bring?
You will need to bring your musical instrument with you. If you play the piano, drums or are a vocalist, we have this covered here at B:Music.
As it is a 5-day, non-residential course, you will also need to bring a packed lunch (or money to buy lunch). Lunch provided for children who typically receive Free School Meals.
What should I wear?
Whatever you’re comfortable in! We don’t have a uniform or dress code, just B:You!
I have additional needs. Can I still take part?
Of course, we welcome everyone! We have places available on all our projects for individuals with additional needs - you can let us know the details on your registration form. We will then do our best to make sure that the relevant adjustments are in place.
Sounds great: How do I join?
Applications open in March 2025. Please note that this is a selective application process due to the finite number of places available on the B:Music Summer School - completing an application form does not guarantee your child a place.
