Celebrate Birmingham’s vibrant Reggae history and explore it’s musical origins, tracing the influences from Africa, via French high society, the West Indes and Bob Marley’s undeniable impact on the world stage 80 years after his birth.
Reggae Origins: Bob Marley & Handsworth Reggae brings together Basil Gabbidon (Steel Pulse) and band alongside musicians from Birmingham Contemporary Music Group (BCMG) for an unforgettable journey through the history of Reggae on what would have been Bob Marley’s 80th Birthday. Combining strings with a full band performing brand new arrangements of iconic Reggae hits from the Birmingham Reggae scene, Bob Marley and others. Steel Pulse put Birmingham’s Reggae scene and Handsworth on the map with their debut album, Handsworth Revolution. The band went on to build an international reputation, touring alongside Bob Marley and the Wailers. Hear rare grooves alongside Bob Marley’s biggest hits in an evening celebrating Birmingham and Reggae.
