About ECHO Rising Stars: Sao Soulez Larivere - The Voice of Folk

Here’s an exhilarating and adventurous prospect to wake up your Sunday morning. Franco-Dutch viola player Sào Soulez Larivière brings both percussion and electronics on board to explore a whole new side to the viola. His thriving career engages audiences through fearless and untraditional programming, commissioning of new work and his own creative arrangements.

The Voice of Folk incorporates traditional folk music into contemporary composition with a particular emphasis on the voice as both an instrument and a vessel of cultural heritage. Through the interplay of vocal melodies and instrumental arrangements, composers such as Komitas Verdapet, Tigran Mansurian, Luciano Berio, György Ligeti and Julia Wolfe breathe new life into timeless folk tunes. Whether through the evocative lamentations of Armenian songs or the beautiful intricacies of Sicilian traditions, they illuminate the enduring significance and emotive power of folk music, ensuring its voice is heard and celebrated in modern musical expression.

Rising Stars are nominated by the artistic directors of Europe’s most prestigious venues which are members of the European Concert Hall Organisation (ECHO).

An hour-long Sunday morning concert, with coffee/tea and a slice of cake available before the concert, included in your ticket
