About ECHO Rising Stars: Matilda Lloyd - Legende

Captivating in her artistry, communication and musicality, British trumpeter Matilda Lloyd presents a thrilling programme of music that tells a story. Through the landscape of 20th century French music, we discover two of the most important works written for trumpet and piano, Honegger’s heroic Intrada and Enescu’s impressionistic Légende, composed for a trumpet competition at the Paris Conservatoire. We also delve into the romance of French music, exploring the emotional range of the trumpet through chansons by Pauline Viardot and Gabriel Fauré.

“An explosive young talent” (AllMusic), Matilda Lloyd first came to attention as winner of the BBC Young Musician Brass Final in 2014, and wowed audiences in her first Proms appearance two years later. Her debut album for Chandos gained a 5 star review and Recording of the Month in BBC Music magazine in 2023. Meanwhile, she has a packed diary of new invitations and return engagements from orchestras at home and abroad, and composers are queueing to write new work for her.

Rising Stars are nominated by the artistic directors of Europe’s most prestigious venues which are members of the European Concert Hall Organisation (ECHO).
