About Buenos Aires Symphony Orchestra of Colón Opera

The magnificent Opera Colón is one of the world’s great opera houses, and it has an orchestra to match. Swapping the orchestra pit for the concert stage, who better to showcase the fiery musical traditions of Buenos Aires and the ‘nuevo tango’ of Astor Piazzolla, coupled with fabulous interludes from opera and ballet.

By adding jazz elements and new instruments to the already infectious rhythms and sultry character, Astor Piazzolla created a tango revolution that went around the globe. A master bandoneon player, his Bandoneon Concerto is a high peak of his ‘nuevo tango’, and Libertango, his signature piece.

In music from opera and ballet, these story-telling musicians are unbeatable. Weep with Wagner’s tragic lovers Tristan and Isolde; be lured by the temptress Carmen in music of passion, betrayal and murder; and be enchanted by the fairytale magic of Tchaikovsky’s gorgeous ballet Swan Lake.
