About National Youth Jazz Orchestra

Led by their Resident MD, award-winning composer and bandleader Olivia Murphy (Birmingham Conservatoire alumna), NYJO presents a 19-strong jazz orchestra, performing existing and new arrangements in the iconic jazz label Blue Note repertoire, especially written by NYJO musicians under Olivia’s mentorship and guidance.

Blue Note's iconic catalogue provides the perfect foundation for career development. Its rich legacy of innovation and collaboration mirrors the core skills that NYJO aim to nurture: cohesive ensemble work, creative reinterpretation and technical mastery. This celebration and reimagining of this classic repertoire promises to captivate modern audiences while honouring jazz traditions.
