About Free Jazz Fridays: Jim Wynn

This year marks 125 years since the birth of Duke Ellington (born April 29th 1899). To celebrate the occasion, the Jim Wynn Quartet will be performing music composed by Ellington and his collaborators from the early 1920s to the 1970s.

Jim Wynn is a pianist, composer and arranger based in Shropshire. Jim also leads the 16-piece Jim Wynn Swing Orchestra, which plays music of the 1930s and 40s from the likes of Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Chick Webb. The Orchestra regularly performs at swing dance events throughout the UK and is mostly comprised of musicians from the West Midlands.
