The premier screening of This Town was held at B:Music venue Town Hall last night to great critical acclaim. Not only is it a story of working class Midlanders in the 80s, but a joyous exploration of how music gives a voice and identity to young people.
We last saw Steven Knight at Town Hall when Peaky Binders Season 5 premiered here in 2019 so we were delighted to be his first choice to showcase his new series. Watch the video to hear why he described Town Hall as the heart of Birmingham on the red carpet.
This major new drama series is the latest from Birmingham's own Steven Knight, and is led by a stellar cast including Michelle Dockery (Downtown Abbey, Anatomy of a Scandal), Nicholas Pinnock (For Life, Marcella) and David Dawson (My Policeman, The Last Kingdom) alongside rising stars Levi Brown (Loss and Return), Jordan Bolger (The Woman King, The Book of Boba Fett), Ben Rose (Line of Duty, The Innocents), Eve Austin (You, Our Ladies) and more.
This Town tells the story of an extended family and a group of young people who are drawn into an explosive and thrilling music scene which evolved from the multicultural grass roots of Coventry and Birmingham in the late Seventies and early Eighties. Acclaimed producer Dan Carey and Brit and Mercury nominated musician, novelist and poet Kae Tempest, have written the songs performed by the band in the series. Steven Knight’s latest drama captures how creative genius can emerge from turbulent surroundings.
Watch on BBC1 Sunday 31 March.
