Overview
Critics are united in their praise for the Barcelona-born soprano Elionor Martínez, singling out her “crystalline voice” (Núvol), “meticulous diction … and expressive elegance” (Olyrix). In this hour-long concert with ‘love’ as a central theme, she selects musical gems from the most significant European Renaissance and Baroque composers, both male and female, guiding us through the periods and their unique features. There’s music from Italian contemporaries Monteverdi and Francesca Caccini, through the influential Spaniard Juan Hidalgo and prolific Italian composer and singer Barbara Strozzi, to songs of the late Baroque by Purcell and Handel, and a new work by Catalan composer Anna Campmany.
Accompanied by theorbo (a long-necked lute) and dancer, the Jennifer Blackwell Performance Space is the perfect place for this intimate concert. Expect colour, contrast, ornamentation and drama from a vocalist whose “bright timbre has something heavenly” (Hamburger Abendblatt).
An hour-long concert, with coffee/tea and a slice of cake available beforehand, included in your ticket.
Rising Stars are nominated by the artistic directors of Europe’s most prestigious venues which are members of the European Concert Hall Organisation (ECHO).
