Job Description

B:Music Ltd is the music charity responsible for Symphony Hall and Town Hall, two iconic venues in the heart of Birmingham. Each year, these venues welcome over half a million people to around 800 concerts and events.

Symphony Hall and Town Hall are live music and entertainment venues, and flexibility is required around working hours, the successful candidate may on occasion be required to work outside the usual 9 – 5 office hours.

Overall Purpose

Provide a welcoming, customer-focused reception service for all clients, artists and visitors to Town Hall Stage Door, and assist in ensuring the safety and security of the building.

Key Accountabilities

Staff the Stage Door to provide a consistently focussed welcoming reception service for all visitors, including concert promoters, artists, commercial clients and members of the public.

Manage the issuing of passes and monitor access to the building as required, ensuring that only authorised personnel are admitted.

Carry out regular foot patrols of the building, internal and external and to provide security assistance to other staff if necessary.

Respond to any incidents of disorder and take appropriate action.

Ensure all keys are signed in and out in accordance with procedures so a full audit trail can be followed.

Receive and document all deliveries for all departments, including assisting with moving those deliveries to the appropriate storage areas around the building.

Monitor the fire and security systems, and other building management systems as required, documenting incidents and filing related paperwork.

Assist with the safe evacuation of the building in the event of an emergency, including liaising with the Fire Service to ensure effective communication regarding the situation.

Provide pro-active monitoring of CCTV cameras.

Maintain a clean and safe working environment, ensuring that all Health & Safety regulations are satisfied.

Complete and document pre-event and last man safety checks of the building, ensuring that any issues are resolved as soon as possible.

Provide first aid assistance as required and to maintain accident / incident records.

Record all relevant incidents and information in the Handover book.

Take responsibility for logging and dealing with enquiries about lost property and other queries and complaints in a professional manner, resolving or referring them as appropriate.

Liaise with colleagues to ensure effective communication and smooth operation.

Assist with vehicle movement and parking in the Loading Bay as required, including booking car parking spaces for disabled patrons.

Assist with moving and setting up furniture in preparation for events and meetings.

Assist with other duties and tasks from time to time as required that are reasonably comparable in line with the level of the role.

Person Specification

Significant experience in providing a consistent customer-centric service to a variety of customers and visitors and in using clear verbal communication skills dealing with the public.

A proactive individual who will work calmly and effectively under pressure with experience of problem solving in difficult situations.

Excellent interpersonal skills, capable of effective communication with venue personnel, visiting persons and external contractors.

Takes responsibility for the consequences of own actions and results.

The ability to work effectively both autonomously and within a team, and to make decisions ‘in the moment’ acting responsibly and using good judgement.

Ability to be sufficiently mobile to move around the building inclusive of areas where space is quite restricted.

Experienced in the use of IT systems, Microsoft Office and the ability to quickly learn new bespoke systems.

Hold a current SIA Door Supervisors Licence (including Physical Intervention module), and a CCTV Licence, and a First Aid at Work Qualification.

Hold a Qualification in health and safety or an interest in pursuing this.

Ability to undertake Manual Handling training for the physical requirements of the role.

Possess an interest and enthusiasm for live music, entertainment and the Arts.

Ability to work over a 24 hour day and a 7 day a week period with the flexibility to meet business needs.
