Supersonic Kids Gigs present…

ICHI hosted by Anna Palmer

Created by the UK’s premiere experimental music festival, Supersonic Kids Gigs are designed for families as a way of introducing children to experimental music – BIG sounds for little people!

Expect a live set of quirky handmade instrument inventions from this Bristol-based Japanese experimental singer-songwriter – playful, danceable and pure fun! This Kids Gig will be hosted by everyone's favourite alt-rocker and pyscho-storyteller, Anna Palmer from Dorcha.

Following a pop-up performance at our 2019 festival and a virtual Kids Gig in the lockdown, we're delighted to welcome ICHI, from Nagoya in Japan back to Birmingham. He takes the notion of a one-man band to new limits, combining his quirky handmade instrument inventions (Stilt-bass, Kalilaphone, Balloon-pipes, Hatbox-pedal-drum, Tapumpet, Percussion-shoes & Hattrick-hat) with steel-drum, ping-pong balls, typewriter, toys & everyday objects all in the space of one short set. Somehow there's an ancient, ritualistic feel to his performances - he's like the misplaced leader of a tribe. To see ICHI live is to witness something so playful and unusual you know that you're experiencing something entirely new.

"I love the depth of the performances, and the willingness to show kids exciting and beautiful music without worrying about it being over explained. A hit for the kids and parents for sure. The show was expertly hosted by Anna with infectious enthusiasm and timing."
