About Incubator Sessions by B:Music & Poetry Co'Lab

It’s our final Incubator Sessions of 2023. Over the last four months we’ve invited you to come and experience exciting new sounds as musicians share their latest creations and test new music before its released, alongside our partners Poetry Co’Lab who bring you some of the regions most exciting poets from the region. We’ve enjoyed artist & audience interaction, with our musicians co-creating new pieces of music on the night, alongside audience members brave enough to get involved by sharing their own poetry or jumping in on our energetic cypher. Whether you choose to sit back and enjoy or get involved everyone is welcome to share this warm creative space, once final time.

Incubator Sessions are supported by B:Music & PRS Foundation

December line-up

Soweto Kinch

Soweto Kinch is back to close out this years Incubator Sessions. Award winning alto-saxophonist and MC Soweto Kinch is one of the most exciting and versatile musicians in both the British jazz and hip hop scenes. Undoubtedly, one of the few artists in either genre with a degree in Modern History from Oxford University he has amassed an impressive list of accolades and awards on both sides of the Atlantic – including a Mercury Music Prize nomination, two UMA Awards and a MOBO for best Jazz Act in 2003. In October 2007, he won his second MOBO Award, at the O2 Arena, London where he was announced as the winner in the Best Jazz Act category- fending off stiff competition from the likes of Wynton Marsalis.

His skills as a hip hop MC and producer have also garnered him recognition in the urban music world: having supported the likes of KRS ONE, Dwele and TY, and being championed by the likes of Mos Def, Rodney P and BBC 1-Xtra’s Twin B.

Once again we are giving you the chance to listen to this legendary creative and if feeling brave, jam alongside him!

Lucy-Anne Daniels

A natural performer, creative improviser and talented musician, Birmingham based, Leeds native Lucy-Anne Daniels draws inspiration from singers such as Betty Carter, gospel duo Mary Mary and, most pertinently, Amy Winehouse. At just twenty Lucy-Anne Daniels has begun making her mark on the UK jazz scene; playing at notable venues such as Ronnie Scotts and Pizza Express Soho, and sold out her debut show at Cheltenham Jazz Festival 23’ and most recently made her international debut at her Dizzy’s Jazz Club in New York.

Grounded by the vibrant sounds of gospel and jazz, yet flowing freely between an array of styles, rich vocals and vivid storytelling lie at the heart of Lucy-Anne’s music. She's able to instantly whisk audiences away with her effortless control of melody, and rawness and intimacy of her music. Lucy-Anne will explore newly written songs and reimagined standards, incorporating spoken word, free improvisations and vocal fx.

Poetry Co'Lab

This month Poetry Collab bring you poets Casey Bailey, Luane and their electric Poetry Cypher.

Luane, is a natural creative whether making, sketching or writing, Luane is a heart on her sleeve poet, whose work resonates with emotional intelligence and a raw honesty that truly connects with her audience. Now part of the Blank Canvas Society team that organises events for all who love art and poetry.
