About Housewarming Sessions: Steve Banks Quintet
Free jazz in the new performance space at Symphony Hall.
Described in Jazzwise Magazine as evoking a “Metheny-esque lyricism”, guitarist Steve Banks presents a quintet featuring musicians from the forefront of UK jazz.
After an Autumn 2021 UK tour, Steve recorded ‘Emboldened’, an Arts Council England supported suite of music to be released in 2022 alongside an album of original compositions. Steve’s captivating style, lyricism and versatility has also featured on recent recordings and performances across the UK with Sara Colman, Greg Cordez and What She Said.
The quintet presents Steve’s original compositions encompassing deep contemporary grooves, Brazilian and swing influences, lush harmonies and memorable melodic hooks. The rich and dynamic musical landscapes created by the quintet are redolent of The Impossible Gentlemen, Maria Schneider, Fred Hersch and Bill Frisell, providing a showcase for Steve’s expressive, resonant and distinctive voice.
