About EBBF: EBBC Championship Section Set Test- Piece

The championship section is the absolute pinnacle of brass band competition anywhere in the world, bringing together the national champion bands from across Europe aiming to crown one European champion.

The competition begins on Saturday afternoon in the purest form of band competition with a set test piece which this year is the new work, receiving its world premier Saints Triumphant by Philip Wilby. The work pays tribute to the great English composer Ralph Vaughan Williams (1872-1958) and forms part of a major nationwide celebration of his life and work entitled RVW150.

Saints Triumphant is based on the most famous of RVW’s own hymn tunes, Sine Nomine, composed to be sung to the hymn ‘For all the Saints who from their labours rest’.

There will be a pre-concert talk with composer Philip Wilby screened in the hall at 3.20pm
