About EBBF: EBBC Challenge Section and Championship Section Own-Choice

The Challenge Section features bands from across Europe who are striving to become future participants in the Championship Section and will be playing the set work Variations for Brass Band by Vaughan Williams. The piece was selected in order to pay tribute to the great English composer Ralph Vaughan Williams (1872-1958) and forms part of a major nationwide celebration of his life and work entitled RVW150 taking place in 2022.

The afternoon session will see the return of the Championship contenders who will play their own choice test pieces. This section sees the absolute pinnacle of brass bands anywhere in the world as all the European national winners compete with music aiming to show the absolute best of their ability. In past years many brand new pieces have been performed for the first time alongside many of the best test pieces from the history of the repertoire.
