About Community Spirit 2023: Celebrating Songs Of The Earth

Community Spirit 2023: Celebrating Songs Of The Earth
With Black Voices and Featuring Jasmine Gardosi, Birmingham Poet Laureate.

Community Spirit is a project run by B:Music in partnership with our Associate Artists, Black Voices. The project offers local community choirs the opportunity to share repertoire and perform as a collective in a large-scale concert in Symphony Hall.

In 2022 we celebrated the 10th anniversary of Community Spirit, with over 750 singers performing a brand-new commission for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games as a collective in a large-scale concert in Symphony Hall, a B:Music venue.

Following this incredible success, the highly acclaimed concert returns this year with the theme ‘Celebrating Songs of the Earth’, including an exciting commissioned performance by Birmingham Poet Laureate Jasmine Gardosi.

Jasmine Gardosi is an award-winning spoken word artist, beatboxer and multiple slam champion of national and international renown.

The Community Spirit choirs truly represent the best aspects of the city, showcasing a diversity of backgrounds, genres (from classical, pop, rock, gospel, folk, reggae and barbershop) and exploring the wonders of nature, culture, whilst addressing themes around climate change.
