About Birmingham Philharmonic Orchestra: Mahler's Seventh Symphony

Among his monumental orchestral achievements, Mahler’s Seventh Symphony defies all expectations. Often controversial and sometimes castigated, for over a century the symphony has perplexed listeners with its combination of nocturnal mystery, refinement, irony and uproarious cheerfulness. The three central movements (the second and fourth both titled ‘Nachtmusik’ bracketing a shadowy scherzo) are surrounded by two lengthy and dramatic episodes: the first seemingly an evocation of the darker side of nature; the last, a riotous rondo-finale. Join the Birmingham Philharmonic Orchestra for a performance of some of Mahler’s least known but nevertheless most extraordinary music.
