The British Open is the oldest brass band contest in the world and the top 15 British bands continue this great tradition, alongside the invited European champions, by competing for the coveted ‘Open’ title.

This year’s event will be the first major brass contest to take place since 2019 due to the lockdown measures.

The test piece is the world premiere of a new work by renowned British composer Professor Edward Gregson. The title ‘The World Rejoicing ‘is particularly poignant as the ‘Open’ marks the long awaited return of top class contesting to a major auditorium.

‘The World Rejoicing’ is a melodic and dramatic symphonic suite based around a well know Lutheran chorale – Nun danket allegott (Now thank we all our God) as well as reflecting upon musical quotations from Gregson’s other major works for brass band.
